You enjoy backyard bird watching, and the sounds of birds chirping in the trees. You would like to draw the bird to your  backyard garden, deck, or even a window where you can enjoy watch them. You may have decided to put up a bird feeder or maybe you want to just have a bird bath water feature. Now you you would like to know how to select the right bird bath for you. You would also like to know what bird bath selection and styles are available.

The birds will not only like having a place to come, and take a bath but clean water can be one of the hardest things a bird can find. With the pollution of  sprays, oils, and other contaminants to water they find along a street or even in a puddle in a yard you can help them with clean water in your bird bath.

In bird bath selection it is important to select a bird bath style with the proper  water depth. The ideal depth for a bird bath is about three inches. If you want or have a deeper water feature bird bath you can add rocks, or colored flat marbles to the middle or even along the edge so they have a safe place to land. If your water feature is more than a trickle adding a shallow area, and footing is a good idea. Make sure your hose is long enough to reach from where you need to attach it to your sprinkler system and be hidden as it  goes up the side of your bird bath, then it must reach the at least the inside edge of the bird bath.

If you do not have a sprinkler system or you want a water feature you can  make your own water feature by running a hose so that it trickles into the bird bath, runs over some rocks, or you can install fountains that are designed for birdbaths or other types of water features..

Placing your bird bath in close proximity to a garden hose makes it easy to clean as well as fill. Make sure to place your bird bath or water feature a distance from your bird feeder if you have one so wild bird food does not drop into the water. You will need to change the water at least weekly, and more frequently in hot weather if you do not have a drip system. You can clean your bird bath by running the water over, squirting  it out, or by dumping the water out.

Be careful to place your bird bath where predictors such as cats can not easily get to the birds. If you have a ground bird bath place it in a fairly open area. Placing your bird bath at least  five foot or more from trees or objects that predators can hide behind is a good idea. If you place your bird bath where there are branches to jump up on to dry as well as jump to safety is a good idea as well.

A pedestal bird bath is a safe as well as enjoyable styles of bird bath as it is easy to watch the birds, and usually easy to clean.
